Richard Box created a field of light, consisting of 1301 fluorescent tubes that were powered only by electric fields generated by overhead power lines.
Field was situated at a 3,600 square metres field under huge 400,000 volts power lines. The electrical field generated by the power lines is powerful enough to light up the fluorescent tubes while using the ground which is at an potential voltage of zero.
It’s obvious to think of the installation as a comment about the potential dangers of power lines, but Box claims that his main interest was to take something that’s invisible and make it visible.
