Big Shadow is an interactive installation in which magnified shadows of people are projected onto a building, 7 stories high. The shadows can suddenly change into the shape of a dragon, resembling the ‘Blue Dragon’ from the Xbox 360 game of the same name.
The shadows are projected images of real people captured by a video camera. The shadows can change shape based on particular gestures performed by people such as raising their arms, which will morph the shadow into a dragon. Sometimes the shadows of a large foot or a hand spilling a cup of water will also interact with people’s shadows.
Via a dedicated website, another person’s shadow can be added to the projection, using a webcam. Since the installation is not active at the moment, the original website is not functional but an interactive re-creation of the website is still online.
Check out the video of the installation in action.
